The history of VFA 82 goes back more than two decades. The squadron was established at NAS Cecil Field in 1967 with twelve single seat A-7A Corsair II aircraft. Since then, the Marauders earned a number of Navy awards and deployed in waters throughout the world.

The latest chapter of Marauder history was written recently as the squadron returned from its final deployment on board USS Nimitz with Carrier Air Wing Eight in the A-7E Corsair. After their return, the squadron moved into a new era when it was redesignated Strike-Fighter Squadron 82 and began flying the F/A-18 Hornet

The Marauders flew combat sorties in support of Operation Desert Storm and in subsequent deployments, they supported NATO operations in the Mediterranean and Persian Gulf operating areas.

Throughout the years the Marauders have earned a number of impressive honors. They were awarded the CNO's Aviation Safety Award, the coveted McCluskey Award for the top attack squadron in the Navy and two consecutive years were named COMNAVAIRLANT's top mining squadron.
